Kamnik, 6 January 2012 – ACH Volley claimed its seventh title of the Slovene national and Cup champion in front of a huge crowd in ŠD Kamnik, and its sixth championship title in a row. With 3:0 in sets (20, 18, 9), they defeated the hosts of the final tournament – Calcit Volleyball – without any major difficulties. ”I don't even count the cups anymore, what matters is that we stayed serious, sharp and focused throughout the game, and we fulfilled the first goal for this season. But truth be told, our thoughts are already in the Champions' League,” said the team captain and most valuable player of the entire tournament, Andrej Flajs.
It has been clear for quite a while already that ACH Volley has no competition in Slovenia – in all the matches of the Slovenian national championship, they only lost one set against any other team. But the way the competition is organised, surprises are possible in the final match, so there is always hope for all competitors. Or at least there used to be – perhaps even two years ago – whereas this year ACH Volley made it clear that losing was not an option for them. In Slovenia, they simply have no equal. In Europe, things are a bit different, because the orange team still has to get a hang of it, and will probably need another year or two to mature and reach for the top. Nonetheless, ACH Volley is definitely one of the best teams in Europe – there is certainly no room for mediocrity in the Champions' League!
Along with winning the cup as a team last night in Kamnik, ACH Volley also saw some of its players singled out for their performance in the final tournament. Specifically, Miran Rašić, blocker, was winning the most points at the final match – as many as 17, which is outstanding, especially on that position. Alen Šket, opposite, was named best attacker and Dejan Vinčić best setter of the match. Last but not least, Andrej Flajs, captain of ACH Volley, was selected most valuable player of the tournament for his truly exceptional performance – on reception, serve and in attack.
Congratulations to the Orange Dragons, and good luck on January 11 in Montenegro, for their re-match against Budvanska Rivijera in the Champions' League.
