In this season, which is coming to an end, ACH Volley has proved to be a very stable and mature team, so the team managers decided to hurry up and form the 2011/2012 team as soon as possible. The basic structure will remain intact. The first ones to officially pledge their loyalty to the club were Dejan Vinčić, one of the best setters in Europe, and Alen Šket, opposite, soon followed by Andrej Flajs, outside hitter and captain of the team, and Matevž Kamnik, one of the top middle blockers in Europe. The latest addition to the team is Alan Komel, outside hitter and one of the best players of the Greek team Lamia Volley in the past two seasons. Aleš Fabjan, Matej Vidič, Milan Rašič, and Uroš Kovačević will also stay in the team, and two young promising Slovenian players – Klemen Čebulj and Gregor Ropret – were invited to join them. Igor Kolaković will remain the head coach in the next season. Discussions are currently still underway with Vid Jakopin and Daniel Lewis. “We managed to form the team for the next season relatively early this year, also thanks to our efforts in the past. In fact, we have managed to put together a team with the best age structure, strong motivation, solid experiences from major competitions, in good fitness, and with a healthy desire to win - and even reach the top, which we really can do now. Let`s say this is what we have been working for the past few years. What seems to be the winning formula will now be put the test under the leadership of Igor Kolaković, our head coach. This is a team that has been given enough time to grow and rise up to the challenges ahead, and hard work just might pay off and bring them new victories,” Rasto Oderlap, head of the ACH Volley management board, said.
As we mentioned, discussions are still underway with Vid Jakopin, outside hitter, and Daniel Lewis, libero, who shared his thoughts about his time with the team, without revealing whether or not he would stay in ACH Volley in the next season. Daniel Lewis said: "I think we were really focused and disciplined in these crucial matches at the end of the season, showing the quality that only the greatest teams can achieve, and if the team carries on like this in the next season, success in the Champions League is within our reach, no doubt about it. It is now important to take some time off, rest, put together a team and start the new season as we left off in the one that just ended. It is also more fun to play when you know you really are part of the team. Good relations between members of the team also contribute to the quality of the game. A team has to be solid – it is not about the best individuals, but rather about the best team players. That is the only way to beat the best in the world.”
